Where Should First Aid Kits Be Located?

Preface

‘God Help Those, who helps Themselves’, is a well known phrase. Helping oneself refers to putting in that effort and doing things that needs to be done in order to achieve a goal. On the other hand, helping others is a virtue which is generally possessed by a person who can help himself. In this particular context, we are talking about medical help with the use of a first aid kit. We will learn the points to be remembered while placing a first aid kit as because; it is of no use, if it cannot be accessible in emergency situations.Where Should First Aid Kits Be Located

Importance Of Location

First Aid Kit as the name suggests, is the initial treatment given to an injured or sufferer in case of emergency situation. Mind the word EMERGENCY here. This particular word requires us to be quick, and efficient. Therefore, the first aid kits must be located at places which are very easily accessible. We do not want to create more panic and create hustle and bustle into an already tensed situation, just to find this magic treasure (the first aid box). Hence, we are supposed to take into account certain parameters to locate this box that will as per the need.

Common Places

These are some places where we intend to find a first aid box.

  • At home
  • At workplaces
  • In your car
  • In a travelling kit
  • In Schools
  • Control Rooms
  • Sports Stadia
  • Shopping Malls
  • Churches/Temples

These are just some examples. Generally, every premise must have a proper first aid box which is easily accessible to all in need. No matter, how safely we act, accidents can happen with anyone, anytime. In this scenario, it is of utmost importance, to find such a place for the first aid kit that meets all our requirements.

The Thumb Rule

  • Locate the first aid box at an easily accessible place
  • Make sure that you do not have to walk through staircases, or several doors as this will unnecessarily kill time.
  • Keep it out of the reach of children
  • Make sure that the place is cool and dry
  • Ensure, distance from hazardous areas

Location At Home

Find a place to rest your first aid box at a place which is out of the reach of children but very easily accessible to the adults at home. Keep a regular check on the requisites and their Used To dates.

Location At Workplaces

Again, the thumb rule of easy accessibility applies to all the workplaces. Each and every employee must be aware of its situation. According to a research, approximately 75% of the employees do not have any idea about the location of the first aid kit in their company. This should not be the case. There must be a SAFETY TEAM and SAFETY TEAM MEETINGS must be conducted in order to gather and analyze the safety points to be fixed. Apart from this, the employees must be properly trained to use the kit.

Location At Large Buildings/Premises/Crowdy Places

It is advisable to keep the first aid kit in the areas or rooms which are frequently visited. Let us say, the basements which are seldom accessed must not be considered, whereas, a bell ringing chamber that is often used can be apt for keeping the first aid box. All we need is, SPEEDY TREATMENT with hundred percent accuracy.

Vehicle Or Travelling First Aid Kit

A first aid kit should be kept in a cool and dry place inside the vehicle or inside the bag. Apart from the basic things, it should contain all the medicines as per the needs of each and every person who are travelling. A first-Aid manual is must, especially while travelling. It is advisable to use waterproof, air –tight, sterile and hygienic boxes or pouches as a first aid box.

The Quicker, The Better

The ultimate goal of a first aid kit is to ensure a fast treatment and promoted recovery to the patient. The location of a first aid box plays a vital role in fulfilling this. Hence, as we have learnt the major rules to be followed, we hope we will be better off next time and more confident in using our first aid kits.

Camping at the beautiful Wokas Lake Forestry campground with our friends. The water was crystal clear and the lake was refreshing! Even Fani, our dog, who is NOT a water dog, found herself submerged from time to time. The last picture is our overnight in the grand metropolis of Campbell River, looking out at Quadra Island...our next destination. #escapetrailers
