We take a close look at many different punching bag models and these were the ones that we though were much better than the rest of them. Using any one of them to help you train should really increase your skill level and stamina in the striking sport of your choice.
#1 Century The Original Wavemaster Freestanding Training Bag (3 Colors)
If you are into karate, boxing, MMA or any other striking sport then this is a piece of equipment that you should not be without. It is really that valuable to you as you train. Century is a well-known company for making dine boxing products and this punching bag does nothing to hurt that type of reputation. It is a good one to say the least.
It is a freestanding punching bag that will help anyone develop better striking techniques and also help increase their stamina at the same time. It stays in place nicely as you use it because you can fill the base with water or sand to stabilize it. This punching bag can also be adjusted to several different height settings as you practice with it.
What do we like best about it? We love the way it has just the right amount of give when you punch or kick it. It is not so solid that it hurts your hands, yet it does not move around the floor when you punch or kick it either. Century did a nice job with their design on this.
Despite all its wonderful features it is not a perfect piece of equipment. It can be very bulky and hard to move for one. For those into striking sports that emphasize kicking, it also does not extend down to the floor to practice striking the lower leg area of an opponent.
#2 Everlast Omniflex Free Standing Heavy Bag (Black)
Here is an extremely versatile punching bag from a company whose name is practically synonymous with boxing equipment. Everlast has been making fine boxing product for several decades now. This fine punching bag from them will certainly not hurt their reputation as an excellent training equipment manufacturer.
It has a durable and smooth punching bag that is mounted on a pole with a firm base. The bag can be adjusted all the way up to 67 inches in height. Inside the bag is semi-soft energy absorbent foam that will cushion the blows to your hand as you train by repeatedly striking the bag.
What do we like best about this fine training product? It would have to be its versatility. Because it has such a low profile base it can be adjusted to many different heights. You can put it up high to practice striking the head area, put it in the middle to practice striking the midsection and put it down low to practice kicking legs.
There are a few things that were a little bit of a concern as we tested it out. It will move a little bit if you punch it or kick it extremely hard. It also takes a little time to fill the base with the sand it requires because of the small opening.
#3 Century Wavemaster XXL Training Bag (3 Colors)
This is a pretty amazing workout bag that will be a welcome addition as you build your stamina and striking ability for and fighting type sport. Century really needs to get some credit here for the outstanding design of this fitness apparatus. It will definitely help increase you fighting skills if you train with it on a very regular basis. It is a wonderful punching bag product.
This punching bag is very large and that means you have an abundance of striking area to say the least. It does not matter whether you want to practice kicks to the head or kicks to the legs, you can easily do all sorts of practice striking and kicking with this punching bag. This punching bag stands a full 69 inches in height and is over 18 inches wide.
It features a very durable and ultra-smooth vinyl cover that feels more like fine leather. The padding on this punching bag is sturdy foam that absorbs the blows it takes very nicely to lessen the impact on your hands and feet.
We absolutely love the low profile support base on this punching bag. The low profile base keeps it firmly in place as you strike it but the base does not get in your way while you are doing it. Great design here by Century on the punching bag support system for this product.
What are we not thrilled with about it? Well one thing that will jump out at you is the price for sure. It is the most expensive product on our review list. In all honestly we think most people that train with it will feel the price was well worth it.
#4 Boxing MMA 100lbs Heavy Bag Filled by Outslayer
Here is another fine heavy bag product. Only this time this is a heavy bag that is hung on a hook instead. This type of setup definitely has its advantages when you are training for such sports as karate, MMA, boxing or Muay Thai style fighting. It will be a big training asset for anyone who purchases this affordable and durable punching bag.
It is made out of a synthetic material that simulates leather; this makes it very smooth and durable. The support straps for the bag are even so right into it to help make setting it up easier. This bag even comes with an outstanding ten year warranty on it.
What do we like best about this punching bag? It has to be the fact that it is very long from top to bottom. That means you do not have to stop your workout to adjust the height to the area you are practicing striking. That will save you much time and aggravation as you work out.
What were we not thrilled with about it? Well for starters this thing is very heavy. The bag itself weighs somewhere in the area of 100 pounds. Since it is bulky it is not something you are going to easily pick up and store yourself. It works great if you have a fixed position to keep it in where you do not have to take it down.
#5 Everlast 70-Pound MMA Poly Canvas Heavy Bag (2 Colors)
Here is yet another high quality punching bag that you have to hang up as opposed to it having its own base. It is another fine fight training product from the reputable Everlast Company. That name is one you know you can trust when it comes to fight training equipment.
This is what we call a combination poly-vinyl punching bag. That type of surface should hold up well over time. It features heady duty straps to wrap the chain through that holds it and this chain is also adjustable to set the bag at the proper height for each different user.
What do we like best about this bag? For one it has an excellent price point. It is the lowest priced training product on our review list but don’t mistake that for meaning it does not work well. We also like the fact that it is only a 70 pound heavy bag. That makes it much easier to setup and store than the heavier 100 pound punching bags that you see all the time.
We did have a few concerns with this product. Since it only weighs 70 pounds, if you hit it hard it will sway far enough away to throw off your timing. So if you are an extremely big and powerful man or woman, then the 100 pound weight bag is what you need. There is also a hard spot at the very bottom of this bag we think is used to weigh it down in place; whatever you do make sure you don’t kick or strike this hard spot or you will be very sorry you did.
Punching Bag BUYING GUIDE
You don’t just want to run to the store or buy online the first punching bag that you come across. Not all punching bags are the same and will meet everybody’s needs. That is why you need to take your time when shopping and consider the following key characteristics of punching bags in your buying decision:
For most people price is always a consideration when making a sound buying decision. It should be when looking to purchase a quality punching bag too. One thing that we have noticed is there is only a slight correlation between price and the quality of a punching bag. Simply stated, that means the most expensive heavy bag is not always the one that is the best for everyone.
Huge differences in price will make a significant difference in quality but as a general rule small price differences will not. So if you are attentive when shopping it is entirely possible to find a very good quality punching bag at a very good price. Your fight training and conditioning is important so you should not be afraid to spend a little more to get the exact punching bag you want too.
There are basically two main ways that punching bags support themselves. The oldest way is by hanging them from the type and the newest way is supporting them by means of a weighted base.
A hung bag usually has heavy leather straps sewn right into the bag canvas itself. A chain will then hang down from the ceiling or a piece of metal so it can be attached hanging in the air. These chains are adjustable in most cases so people of different heights can train with the same bag. These bags tend to move a slight bit more than the next type of punching bag support system.
Freestanding bags are fast taking over the punching bag market. They consist of having the padded bag part on top and some sort of wide stand underneath them for support. The stands are usually made so they can be filled with water or sand to keep them from moving when they are hit during a training routine. They are usually the more expensive of the two types of bag support systems.
There are few things that are more important when it comes to a punching bag than how well it is padded. Padding is crucial so you do not hurt your hand or feet when you punch or kick the bag. You have to remember that during a typical training session you may very well hit the punching bag several hundred times. Without proper padding you stand a good chance of injuring yourself.
Padding these days usually consists of one of the following; that would be heavy foam, gel sacs or some sort of compressed soft fiber material. Heavy foam is the most popular because it does such a good job of absorbing the energy of each blow and lessening the impact of them on your hands and feet.
You don’t want your punching bag to move a lot as you strike it because that can throw off your training rhythm if it is constantly happening. That is why you need a punching bag that has some really good weight to it. There is no doubt about it that the heavier a punching and kicking bag is the less it will move as you strike it. So the weight of any punching bag you are thinking about buying has to be a key consideration.
One thing to remember as far as weight goes is the magic number that experts say to use when picking out a punching bag. It is said that you need to get one that is as heavy as at least half of your weight. If not you stand the chance of buying a bag that will move too much as you train with it. This can be extremely aggravating as you try to hone your striking and kicking skills.
Chances are if you have others that you train with in your home you will want a punching bag that is adjustable in height. It is not very likely that everyone you train with is exactly the same height as you are. In that case you will want to look for a punching bag that has a height adjustment capability built right into it.
Freestanding bags have the ability to do this in many different ways and with hung bags it is done by adjusting the support chain that holds it as mentioned before.
The material that the padded part of your punching bag is made of should be noted during the buying process also. Most of made with synthetic coverings that are of varying quality. You want to make sure you get one with a material that is both soft and durable. This will ensure your punching bag feels good when striking it and its cover will last you well into the future.
To put it mildly your punching bag will take a beating. This is true both literally and physically. That is why you want to make sure a good warranty is provided with any punching bag that you purchase. These usually will not cover abuse but they will cover such things as bad stitching and defective materials. Keep in mind too that even the best made products are not immune to material defects or errors made during their production.
Warranties will also provide you with a clue as to how well a manufacturer thinks their product will hold up. No company is crazy enough to offer a long warranty on a punching bag that is made with inferior materials and is not put together well. A warranty is also a good way to make a final purchasing decision between two punching bags that are very similar in other characteristics.
Make sure you match the Best Punching Bag to your Fighting needs
